This project in Marshfield required more than just a new driveway; it demanded a sophisticated drainage solution to manage water both on the surface and underground. Unique Driveways Cardiff installed an 80 square metre imprinted concrete driveway featuring a classic Ashlar pattern, integrated with a comprehensive Aco drainage system and sub-surface soakaway cages to protect the adjacent turfed area.
The primary challenge was managing significant water runoff. The property’s layout meant that a standard driveway installation could lead to waterlogging in the nearby lawn. The solution needed to effectively handle surface water from the driveway itself while also addressing sub-surface drainage to keep the garden healthy and usable.
We chose a timeless Steel Grey colour hardener and the ever-popular Ashlar pattern to give the driveway a clean, modern, and spacious appearance. An antique release powder was used during the imprinting stage to add depth and a natural, two-tone stone effect to the finish.
The key to this project’s success was the advanced drainage system we installed before pouring any concrete.
Once the drainage was in place, we prepared the sub-base and poured our specialist fibre-reinforced concrete. The Steel Grey colour was applied and trowelled in, followed by the release powder and the imprinting of the Ashlar pattern.
The Marshfield property now benefits from a complete, engineered solution. The driveway looks fantastic with its sleek Steel Grey finish, and the homeowner has total peace of mind knowing that water is managed effectively on the surface and below ground. After the standard 24-hour curing time, our team returned to jet wash the driveway, cut the necessary expansion joints for long-term stability, and apply a final coat of our anti-slip sealant. The result is a robust, weed-free, and beautiful driveway that cleverly protects the entire front garden from water damage.
