Project Overview

For this project in Ystrad Mynach, the homeowner wanted a driveway that combined traditional aesthetics with modern performance. Unique Driveways Cardiff installed a beautiful imprinted concrete driveway using a classic cobble pattern and a sophisticated colour, creating a durable and stylish entrance that perfectly suits the property.

The Challenge

The client’s existing driveway was dated and required frequent maintenance to remain tidy. They wanted a brand-new surface that would offer a timeless, rustic look but without the associated problems of traditional cobbles, such as weed growth, sinking stones, and difficult cleaning. The solution needed to be both visually appealing and built for long-term, hassle-free use.

The Solution

To meet the client’s desire for a classic, textured look, we recommended the Lakeland Cobble pattern. This design beautifully replicates the rounded, slightly irregular shape of natural cobblestones found in the Lake District, adding instant character and charm. This was paired with a modern Slate Grey colour hardener, which provides an elegant and versatile finish.

The Installation Process

Our team followed our proven imprinted concrete process to ensure a flawless result:

  1. Preparation: The area was fully excavated, and a solid sub-base was laid and compacted to create
a stable foundation for the new driveway.
  2. Concrete Pour: Our specialist fibre-reinforced concrete was poured and carefully levelled across the entire area.
  3. Colour and Texture: The Slate Grey colour hardener was hand-cast over the wet concrete and meticulously trowelled in to create a smooth, consistently coloured slab. An antique release powder was then applied, which adds a natural, secondary tone to the finish and prevents the pattern mats from sticking.
  4. Imprinting: The Lakeland Cobble pattern mats were then stamped into the surface, permanently transferring the charming cobblestone texture into the concrete.

The Results

The new driveway provides the property with a stunning, character-filled entrance. The Lakeland Cobble pattern, enhanced by the sophisticated Slate Grey colour, delivers a high-end look that is both timeless and unique.

After the concrete cured for 24 hours, our team returned to jet wash the surface, cut the necessary expansion joints to ensure its longevity, and apply two coats of a high-quality anti-slip sealant. The homeowner now has a beautiful, low-maintenance, and completely weed-free driveway that will retain its charm and durability for many years to come.
