This large-scale, 100-square-metre project in Barry was a complete outdoor overhaul. The client wanted a unified yet distinct look for their driveway and patio areas. Unique Driveways Cardiff designed and installed a seamless imprinted concrete solution that incorporated a new driveway, a multi-level patio with new steps, and a complete drainage upgrade.
The main challenge was to create a cohesive design across a large, multifunctional space. The driveway needed to be robust and practical, while the patio area required a warmer, more inviting feel. The project also demanded a comprehensive upgrade of all existing drainage and manhole covers to ensure longterm performance and a flawless finish.
We opted for a dual-colour scheme to define the different zones. The driveway was finished in a sleek Steel Grey colour hardener with a Charcoal release powder, creating a modern and sophisticated entrance. For the patio, a warm Biscuit colour was chosen to create a welcoming space for relaxation and entertaining.
Following the full excavation and preparation of the 100sqm area, our team poured the specialist fibrereinforced concrete. The driveway section was coloured with Steel Grey hardener, while the patio received the Biscuit treatment. After trowelling the colour in, the appropriate release powders were applied across each area to provide the authentic, two-tone finish and prepare for imprinting. The classic Ashlar pattern was used on both surfaces to create a harmonious, elegant look.
Our team constructed new steps leading into the patio area, seamlessly integrating them with the new surface. We also replaced all existing manholes with new recessed covers, which were then imprinted to match the surrounding pattern, resulting in a seamless blend. A complete upgrade of the property’s drainage system was also completed to manage surface water effectively.
This Barry property now features a stunning and expansive outdoor space that is both beautiful and highly practical. The contrasting colours clearly define the driveway and patio areas while the consistent Ashlar pattern ties the whole design together.
After the 24-hour curing process, the entire area was jet-washed, expansion joints were precisely cut, and two coats of high-quality anti-slip sealant were applied. The homeowners now have a magnificent, lowmaintenance, and weed-free outdoor living area that has significantly enhanced their home’s value and kerb appeal.
