This project in Ystrad Mynach involved creating a sophisticated 70 square metre patio area. The homeowner wanted the high-end look of large porcelain tiles without the associated high cost and maintenance. Unique Driveways Cardiff delivered a stunning imprinted concrete surface that perfectly mimics porcelain, complete with a seamless finish.
The goal was to create a modern, clean, and spacious patio area that felt luxurious and required minimal upkeep. A key technical challenge was to ensure that functional elements, like manhole covers, did not disrupt the clean lines of the large-format tile design.
To achieve the desired aesthetic, we recommended our Porcelain pattern. This pattern replicates the look of large, premium tiles for a fraction of the cost. We paired this with a warm Biscuit colour hardener and a rich Chocolate antique release powder. This combination provides a subtle, natural-looking contrast that enhances the pattern’s texture and depth.
Our team began by preparing the 70sqm area, ensuring a solid and level sub-base. The specialised fibrereinforced concrete was then poured and levelled. The Biscuit colour hardener was cast evenly across the surface and trowelled in to create a smooth, consistent colour foundation. Following this, the Chocolate release powder was applied. This crucial layer provides the authentic two-tone effect and allows the large porcelain pattern mats to be imprinted cleanly without pulling up the concrete.
To maintain the sleek, uninterrupted finish, we replaced the existing manhole covers with new recessed trays. These were then filled with the same imprinted concrete, blending seamlessly into the patio’s design and becoming virtually invisible.
The finished patio provides the Ystrad Mynach home with a beautiful and highly functional outdoor living space. The Porcelain pattern in the warm Biscuit and Chocolate tones creates a bright, contemporary area perfect for relaxing or entertaining.
After the concrete cured for 24 hours, our team returned to jet wash the surface, carefully cut the necessary expansion joints, and apply a durable anti-slip sealant. The homeowner now has a stunning, weed-free patio that offers the premium look of porcelain with the unmatched durability and lowmaintenance benefits of imprinted concrete.
