This extensive 170-square-metre project in Nelson involved creating a large, sweeping driveway that made a bold statement. The homeowner chose a unique colour and pattern combination to give their property a distinctive, rustic charm. Unique Driveways Cardiff managed the entire installation, including a comprehensive drainage upgrade, to deliver a spectacular and highly functional result.
The sheer scale of the 170sqm area presented a significant challenge. The project required meticulous planning and execution to ensure a consistent finish across the entire surface. Furthermore, effective management of surface water was critical on such a large expanse, demanding the installation of a robust drainage system and seamless integration of multiple manhole covers.
The client selected the charming Country Cobble pattern to create a more traditional, rustic feel. To make a truly unique statement, they opted for a striking Slate Blue colour hardener, a less common but incredibly effective choice that gives the driveway a rich, deep hue. An antique release powder was used to add a secondary tone, enhancing the texture of the cobbles.
Our team began with extensive ground preparation across the 170sqm site to create a solid, stable subbase. The specialist, fibre-reinforced concrete was then poured and expertly levelled. The Slate Blue surface hardener was hand-cast evenly and trowelled into the concrete to create a smooth, coloured slab. Following this, the antique release powder was applied to provide a natural, two-tone finish and to allow the Country Cobble pattern mats to be imprinted cleanly.

After the concrete cured for 24 hours, the surface was thoroughly jet-washed to reveal the final colours. Expansion joints were cut for long-term durability, and the driveway was sealed with two coats of our highquality anti-slip sealant. The homeowner now has a stunning, weed-free, and low-maintenance driveway that adds significant character and value to their home.
