Project Overview

This substantial 200-square-metre project in Bristol showcases Unique Driveways Cardiff’s capability to handle large-scale residential installations. The homeowner required a robust, expansive surfacing solution that would unify the front of their property while adding significant aesthetic appeal. We delivered a durable, high-impact imprinted concrete driveway that perfectly balances scale with style.

The Challenge

Surfacing a large area, such as 200 sqm, presents unique challenges. A space this size requires meticulous planning to ensure consistent levels and drainage across the entire span. The client wanted to avoid the “car park” look that can sometimes occur with large tarmac surfaces. Instead, they sought a finish that provided texture, character, and a high-end feel, all while being durable enough to withstand heavy use without sinking or spreading.

The Solution

To break up the large expanse and add visual interest, the client chose the Country Cobble pattern. This design replicates the charming, irregular texture of traditional cobblestones, offering a timeless look that suits a wide range of properties. For a bold, modern finish, they selected a deep Charcoal colour hardener. This strong colour choice provides a striking contrast and hides tyre marks and dirt exceptionally well, making it perfect for a large, busy driveway

The Installation Process

Our team executed a disciplined installation plan to manage this large-scale project:

  1. Groundwork: We excavated the massive 200sqm area and installed a heavy-duty sub-base. Ensuring this foundation was perfectly compacted was critical to preventing any future movement across such a large slab.
  2. Concrete Pour: We poured our specialist fibre-reinforced concrete mix, expertly levelling it to ensure correct falls for water runoff.
  3. Colour Application: The Charcoal colour hardener was applied by hand across the expansive surface. Our team worked efficiently to trowel this in, creating a rich, consistent colour depth throughout the entire 200sqm area.
  4. Imprinting: An antique release powder was applied to add a natural two-tone effect and facilitate the clean release of the mats. The Country Cobble pattern was then systematically stamped across the surface, transforming the wet concrete into a textured, cobbled masterpiece.

The Results

The completed driveway is nothing short of impressive. The deep Charcoal colour gives the property a prestigious, grounded feel, while the Country Cobble pattern adds necessary texture and warmth to the large surface area.

After the concrete had cured for 24 hours, our team returned to jet-wash the entire 200 sqm surface, cut essential expansion joints to control thermal movement, and apply a premium anti-slip sealant. The homeowner now possesses a magnificent, weed-free driveway that is not only built to last but also serves as a stunning focal point for their home.
