For this 70-square-metre project in Cornelly, the homeowner required a driveway that was not only visually appealing but also effectively managed surface water. Unique Driveways Cardiff installed a sophisticated imprinted concrete driveway complete with a modern drainage system, ensuring the property remains protected and looks great.
The primary challenge was to create a seamless, durable driveway that prevented water from pooling against the house. An effective drainage solution was crucial to protect the property’s foundations while maintaining a clean, uncluttered aesthetic.
We selected a timeless combination of Steel Grey colour hardener and a Charcoal antique release powder. This pairing delivers a modern, two-tone finish that beautifully replicates the appearance of natural cut stone. The classic Ashlar pattern was used to create a sense of order and space.
After excavating and preparing the 70sqm area, our team poured the fibre-reinforced concrete mix. It was meticulously levelled before the Steel Grey colour hardener was applied and trowelled in to form a smooth, coloured base. To create the authentic stone texture and prevent the pattern mats from sticking, the Charcoal release powder was brushed over the surface. The Ashlar mats were then imprinted to create the final design.
A key part of this installation was the integration of an Aco drainage channel running flush against the house. This high-quality linear drain captures surface water and directs it away from the building’s brickwork, providing essential protection against damp.
The project successfully delivered a stylish and highly functional driveway. The sleek Steel Grey finish provides a fantastic modern look, while the integrated Aco drain offers complete peace of mind. After a 24-hour curing period, the driveway was jet-washed, expansion joints were cut, and a final coat of anti-slip sealant was applied. The result is a robust, weed-free surface that effortlessly handles both vehicle traffic and rainwater, enhancing the home’s kerb appeal and protecting it for years to come.
